The department’s Bachelor of Arts program was established in 1963, making the ChineseCulture University one of the first

universities in Taiwan to have an undergraduate artdepartment. The Master of Arts program was formerly the Art Department

of the GraduateSchool of Art, which was founded in 1962; it was the first art department in Taiwan, as wellas the

one that cultivated the most talents in art research. In the academic year of 2009,the BA program and the MA program

were merged. Since then, the undergraduatedepartment and the Master's program have been collaborating with each other

andenhancing academic research day by day.The department’s curriculum adheres to the concept of combining artistic

creation andtheory with contemporary needs. In order to have the curriculum reflect the department’steaching goals

and the real world’s employment requirements, the curriculum hascompulsory and elective courses for

three different pathways: Chinese Painting andCalligraphy, Western Painting, and Design and Creation.

This has effectively integratedclassroom learning with actual practice, emphasizing both tradition and modernity

as wellas combining Chinese and Western scholarship.The faculty and the students have excelled in

artistic activities and academic research.

Our liberal academic atmosphere and approach to education have been recognized by various sectors,

and we have nurtured many important art groups in Taiwan and contributed to society by providing talents

in the creation of artworks, art design, art education, and the research of advanced art theory.
